Property Matrix has a few important differences in how single-unit properties, such as houses, are handled on the platform.
How Single-Unit Properties Appear in Dropdowns
When dealing with single-unit properties, you'll notice that dropdown menus on the site only display the unit itself—there won't be an option for the building. This is intentional to prevent duplication. Since the building and the single unit essentially represent the same entity, displaying both would create confusion and redundancy.
Unit Numbers for Single-Unit Properties
Another important difference is the handling of unit numbers. For single-unit properties, a unit number is optional and often omitted. The reason behind this is straightforward: the unit name essentially functions as the building name, making an additional unit number unnecessary. However, in multi-unit buildings, the unit number is required to distinguish between the different units clearly.
By default, when creating a single-unit property, the unit will not have a unit number unless you explicitly provide one. This helps streamline property management and keeps your data clean and straightforward.
These distinctions ensure Property Matrix remains intuitive and user-friendly, whether you're managing single-family homes or multi-unit properties.
